Childhood masturbation.
Masturbation in children is a natural and normal part of their development. It begins at an early age when children are exploring their bodies and enjoying touch.
The age at which masturbation begins can vary:
- Some children start touching their genitals in the womb.
- Most children start masturbating between the ages of 1 and 3.
- By age 5, most children masturbate regularly.
How to respond to child masturbation:
- Remain calm and do not shame the child. It is important that the child feels comfortable and safe exploring his or her body.
- Do not forbid masturbation. This can lead to feelings of shame, guilt, and negative attitudes toward sexuality.
- Distract your child's attention if their behavior embarrasses you. Offer him a toy, book, or other interesting activity.
- Explain to the child that "private parts" of the body should not be shown to other people and that they should not be touched without his or her consent.
- Create an atmosphere of openness and trust. Your child should know that they can always come to you with any questions about their body and sexuality.
Many parents face issues with child masturbation. Do not hesitate to ask for help and support.
